[there's something about the phrasing that makes him think, makes him wonder, almost has him asking another question but this conversation has gone on for far too long already and he already has what he wanted. what he needed. doesn't want to risk heine catching him, doesn't want to risk another fight (the first blow of which he's promised to take the brunt of).
so the question goes unasked, slips right through his fingers like smoke]
